Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte's heavyweight blockbuster could represent "a change of eras" for the division, believes Barry Jones, ahead of the pair's highly anticipated bout.
The pair meet this weekend at Riyadh's ANB Arena live on DAZN Pay-Per View, with the former looking to cement his status as the WBO's #1 contender and push for a title shot.
Whyte arrives on the back of three victories in three years that have suggested his best days may be behind him, including a shaky performance against Ebenezer Tetteh.
Speaking at Tuesday's Grand Arrivals, former super-featherweight champion Jones suggested the bout could mark a major shift, but has warned the elder man won't back down.
"It's not so much a passing of the torch, but it might be a change of eras," he said. "I think that's a problem for Dillian Whyte.
"He's got to prove he's got something that people say he hasn't anymore. If you're only as good as your last fight, then it's a hard night for him.
"He wasn't very good against Ebenezer Tetteh. He looked a little slow, he looked like he couldn't pull the trigger.
"Muscle memory was still in his shots, but they had no effect. I guess somebody like Itauma is always going to be an issue. But Dillian is tough and committed.
"When he throws, he throws with everything that he's got. There's a risk that a guy who hasn't ever really been hit properly yet that he gets caught."
Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte is live and exclusive on DAZN PPV this Saturday, August 16. Watch the PPV for free by purchasing a DAZN annual subscription (exc. US).
