WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Murat Gassiev is interested in a fight with rapidly rising British star Moses Itauma

Gassiev is set to make the first defence of his WBA belt on July 11 when he faces France's Tony Yoka.

If Gassiev manages to overcome the Olympic gold medallist, then he will want to continue facing some of the biggest names the heavyweight division has to offer, and Itauma is on his radar.

Gassiev wants to face Itauma in the UK this year or early 2027

Itauma may only be 14 fights into his professional career, but he is passing every test with flying colours.

His most recent win was in March when he dispatched former Anthony Joshua opponent Jermaine Franklin with a fifth round stoppage, and he is expected to return in August against Croatia's Filip Hrgovic

As long as Itauma gets past his next opponent and Gassiev successfully defends his title, then he is ready to face Itauma, and would be eager to travel to the UK for this fight to become a reality.

Gassiev is yet to fight in Britain and he would like a potential bout with Itauma to take place towards the end of 2026 or early next year.

"If a fight with Moses Itauma was to happen, I’d like it in the UK," Gassiev told DAZN News in an exclusive interview.

"I’ve never been to the UK, I’ve only watched fights from there on the TV, I like the atmosphere, a lot of fans, everything, it’s crazy.

"Right now he’s going in one direction, I have another direction, but maybe we come together and fight at the end of the year, or the early part of next year."

Winning 12 of his 14 bouts by knockout, Itauma is certainly destined for boxing superstardom and he is impressing all of his peers in the heavyweight division.

Gassiev is certainly one of those, he went on to praise the 21-year-old for the talent he possesses, and even called Itauma "The future of boxing".

"He’s young, strong, talented and fast. He’s beaten most of his opponents by way of knockout, it’s very good.

"The heavyweight division needs to wake up. I think he’s the future of boxing."
