Naoya Inoue is getting ready to defend his undisputed super bantamweight world titles against Murodjon Akhmadaliev this weekend, but according to Ring Magazine senior insider Mike Coppinger the pound-for-pound king already has his next fight lined up.
Speaking on the inaugural episode of "Inside the Ring," the new studio show that also features veteran sports commentator Max Kellerman, Coppinger stated that the pound-for-pound great will take on David Picasso on Dec. 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Coppinger revealed that undefeated three-weight world champion Junto Nakatani will move up to super bantamweight in the co-main event of the same event.
"If Inoue wins as expected, he will defend his Ring Magazine championship Dec. 27 against David Picasso," Coppinger said.
"The co-main is going to be Junto Nakatani in Riyadh moving up to 122 [lbs], which puts him on a collision course for the fight we all want to see against Inoue, which could happen next summer in the Tokyo Dome [and] would be the biggest fight in Japanese history by a mile."
Of course, Inoue will need to retain his titles this weekend against a fighter in Akhmadaliev that Coppinger calls "crafty."
However, the longtime boxing journalist still feels Inoue should be favoured.
"Inoue is the best, you have to always pick Inoue," Coppinger said.
