For many years, the question has been who wins a fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
The talk amplified on Saturday after Fury's dominant win overĀ Arslanbek Makhmudov. Fury challenged Joshua, who was sitting ringside for the fight. Joshua remained stoic, only grabbing the microphone to let his British rival know that he only does things on his time.Ā
Someone who took notice of what happened last weekend was three-time undisputed and current unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The IBF, WBC, and WBA titlistĀ has fought and beaten Joshua and Fury twice. Currently, Usyk and Joshua train together. When asked on Tuesday at the launch press conference for Saturday, May 23, WBC Heavyweight title defense against former GLORY Kickboxing heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven on DAZN PPV, who wins between Joshua and Fury, Usyk was emphatic in his pick.
"AJ wins," Usyk said. "Future undisputed champion."Ā
Hearing the two-time undisputed heavyweight champion say those words was music to Joshua's promoter at Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn's ears.
"Amazing," Hearn said. "Table nearly flew off."
But that doesn't meanĀ Usyk will be there on fight night if the dream battle comes to fruition.
"If Tyson Fury signed to fight with AJ, I step back," UsykĀ said.Ā
