One of the most exciting fights in boxing will conclude an exciting month of fights live on DAZN on Saturday, May 30, when O’Shaquie Foster puts the WBC super featherweight title at stake against former featherweight titlist Raymond Ford at the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas.
A cardinal mistake some fighters make is looking too far ahead. Despite the fight with Ford signed, sealed, and delivered, Foster keeps on discussing a bout with current WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson. While Stevenson hasn't discussed it, Foster continued to do so Friday at the introductory news conference in Las Vegas ahead of Saturday's WBA heavyweight title eliminator between Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller and Lenier Pero live on DAZN .
Part of Foster's strategy has to do with Ford's closeness to Stevenson, who would likely be there on fight night. There was a rhyme to the reason in Foster's mind to give Ford a crack at the gold.
"For sure," Foster admitted when asked by Eddie Hearn. "He stuck his own foot in his mouth earlier this year when he said, 'Give my boy Ray an opportunity, and I'll give you an opportunity. If you don't give him an opportunity, I'm not gonna give you an opportunity.'
"So when that time come around. I don't want to hear no pump faking after the fight. After I handle him (Ford), I don't want to hear nothing."
If Foster does get past Ford and his wish of Stevenson comes to fruition, he'll have no problem taking the fight at either 135 or 140 pounds.
"I don't need no tuneups going to 35 or 40. Wherever he want to do it," Foster confidently said.
