Parker vs. Wardley: Former Deontay Wilder trainer makes prediction for tonight's heavyweight fight
Former Deontay Wilder trainer Malik Scott is picking Joseph Parker to beat Fabio Wardley this evening.
The two heavyweights will meet at the O2 Arena in London, exclusively live on DAZN PPV, with the winner likely to land a date with the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Much has been made about Wardley's knockout power, which so far has made him a serious force in the division, but Parker is no stranger to facing fearsome punchers.
Scott was in Wilder's corner when the American faced Parker in Riyadh at the end of 2023. It was a fight that the 'Bronze Bomber' would lose in disappointing fashion as he failed to detonate the right hands which made him a must-watch.
Speaking to Jackpot City Casino, Scott is backing Parker to win and make a statement in the English capital this evening.
"The maths say Joseph Parker should win it, not just win it, but probably win it by a stoppage in the first half of the fight. Fabio has fought tough fighters, but he's never fought a Parker," Scott said.
"Parker has fought four big punchers, so dealing with someone that can crack a little bit, it won't be any more of an extra feeling than it was when he fought Wilder, Zhang, Bakolie, Joshua, Ruiz.
"If I was a betting man, I would bet on Parker, first half of the fight by stoppage. Fabio lacks experience and has a lot of loopholes in his game. Joe Parker's just seen it all before. I just think he's seen it all. In this case."
While Scott will be watching tonight's main event with interest, he will be focusing on the co-main event where his fighter, British light heavyweight Ezra Taylor will be in action against late replacement Steed Woodall.
Taylor was originally set to face British and Commonwealth light heavyweight champion Lewis Edmondson, who was forced to withdraw from the fight after picking up a hip injury in training camp.
