On May 23 world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will take on former Dutch Kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven in a boxing bout in Egypt.
It's a fight that's surprised many with Usyk choosing an opponent outside of the sport, rather than taking on fellow heavyweight contenders such as WBO champion Fabio Wardley or Agit Kabayel.
However Dutch kickboxer Verhoeven will prove a dangerous opponent for Usyk, boosting a record of 60 wins, with 21 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
He held the world heavyweight kickboxing championship crown for 12 years before vacating his belt in order to fight Usyk.
This is a huge opportunity for Verhoeven to elevate his name and reputation to an even higher level and increase his worldwide recognition.
In Glory, kickboxing's premiere competition, Verhoeven had a record of 28 wins, 1 loss, and 0 draws. His form has made him the biggest name in the sport and, arguably, the greatest kickboxer of all time.
Verhoeven,'The Prince of Kickboxing', boasted a 12-year reign as world champion, beating all comers to his crown.
In his home country of the Netherlands Verhoeven is a national hero, but now craves worldwide attention with his bout with Usyk.
Rico Verhoeven will face unified boxing heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk, with the Ukrainian’s WBC belt on the line.
Usyk remains unbeaten in his boxing career, seeing off other modern greats like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in recent years.
Verhoeven will present a fresh and different challenge to what Usyk has faced before, no doubt a major reason in Usyk agreeing to the bout.
The fight will be live and exclusive on DAZN PPV on May 23, 2026. Watch with a DAZN Ultimate Tier subscription to get PPV events included in your monthly subscription, along with another 185 fight nights.
