Shakur Stevenson has followed up his Conor Benn call-out by insisting a bout between them can only happen with a rehydration clause.
The Newark fighter attained four-weight champion status on his light-welterweight debut last weekend against Teofimo Lopez at The Ring 6.
Fresh from claiming the WBO crown, the star called out Benn at ringside for a fight, with the Briton leaping between the ropes to face him.
Speaking afterwards however, Stevenson has now acknowledged a bout would only likely happen if his rival faced rehydration clauses.
"If he’s not gonna agree, then we probably don’t fight," he said on a potential clash. "But, we'll see. I'm a businessman at the end of the day.
“I don’t ever negotiate against myself. So we’ll see what happens at the negotiation table and I’ll let my management team handle that."
It is not the first time that Benn has been involved with rehydration clauses, after they were applied to rival Chris Eubank Jr. last year.
The pair's duology was fought at middleweight, with rules that the latter could not weight more than another ten pounds on fight night.
Though Eubank edged the pair's first encounter, the weight cut appeared to adversely affect him in the rematch, where Benn outclassed him.
The latter meanwhile is currently chasing a return to his natural welterweight, where he is expected to challenge for the WBC strap later this year.
But Stevenson would not step up another division to face the Briton unless he was also capped for additional weight, given their size difference.
"Like I said, he did a rehydration clause with Chris Eubank," he added. "Eubank was in the ring half-dead. Why can’t he do the same thing?”
