Chantelle Cameron used Thursday's weigh-in to once again let it be known that she is interested in a trilogy fight with Katie Taylor, with the two having split their matchups so far.
Well, the Northampton, England fighter took a step closer to making that possibly happen by defeating a game Jessica Camara by unanimous decision to retain her WBC interim super lightweight title Friday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Judges inside the "Mecca of Boxing" scored it 99-91, 98-92 and 99-91 all in favor of Cameron who imposed her will with her left hook in the 10th and final round.
With the victory as part of the prelims, Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) remains a mandatory challenger to the winner of tonight's Taylor-Amanda Serrano 3 main event.
That could spell Cameron setting up a trilogy of her own with Taylor after she upset the Irish sensation by majority decision in May 2023, only for Taylor to exact revenge six months later. Their rivalry tied 1-1, a third fight would be intriguing to say the least.
Or Cameron could find herself challenging Serrano if the Puerto Rican fighter is able to defeat Taylor for the first time in their rivalry.
That matchup, too, would present an interesting clash of styles.
