With news of Vasiliy Lomachenko's retirement still making its way around the boxing world on Thursday, legendary promoter and Top Rank chairman Bob Arum released a statement reacting to the 37-year-old's decision to step away from the ring.

Lomachenko put together a dizzying 396-1 record as an amateur fighter, including back-to-back Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012, before becoming a professional. The Ukrainian then went on to win a world title in just his third pro bout, eventually becoming a three-weight world champion in just a dozen fights.

It is that pedigree that made Lomachenko one of the best boxers of his generation, and his longtime promoter Arum paid homage to fighter hours after Lomachenko posted a video announcing his retirement.

"It’s been an honor for all of us at Top Rank to promote the pro boxing career of Vasiliy Lomachenko," Arum said. "He was a generational champion, and we will all miss his participation in the sport."

Lomachenko's final fight took place May 12, 2024, when he defeated George Kambosos Jr. to claim the IBO and IBF lightweight titles.

Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will be streamed exclusively on DAZN PPV, Saturday, June 28.  Buy the PPV now here.
