Could one of the biggest fights in all of boxing be on the cusp of happening?

It was announced early Friday afternoon that Golden Boy Promotions and interim WBC super welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. have reached an amicable settlement and resolved all outstanding disputes. The agreement concludes the pending litigation.

"Our relationship with Vergil has spanned more than a decade, and we are proud to have played a role in his development into one of the sport's premier fighters," Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy, said in a statement. "We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together with Vergil Jr., Rick Mirigian, and the rest of Team Ortiz to deliver the biggest fights possible for boxing fans."

With the resolution between the parties, a fight can be revisited between Ortiz and unified 154-pound champion Jaron "Boots" Ennis, who claimed the WBA and WBO titles with an emphatic seventh-round TKO win over Xander Zayas on June 27.

Ennis and Ortiz appeared to be on the verge of making the fight after the latter destroyed Erickson Lubin inside two rounds in November. They went nose-to-nose at the conclusion of the fight. But negotiations came to a standstill after disputes between Ortiz and Golden Boy.

Now that everything is rectified, Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) is ready to get the Ennis fight locked in, along with battling the cream of the crop in the super middleweight division.

“I’m very grateful that Golden Boy and I were able to come to an understanding and resolve everything,” Ortiz Jr. said. “I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the Ennis fight. My only focus is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team, and I will accomplish that together.”
