Claressa Shields and Marie-Eve Dicaire will finally step in the ring on Friday, nearly a year after they were initially scheduled to square off.
Like many other events worldwide, Shields vs. Dicaire was affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and the bout had to be postponed from its original May 2020 date. Instead, the women will face off this week in Flint, Mich., with another ten months of added anticipation.
Shields (10-0, 2 KOs) has been out of action since January 2020, when she beat Ivana Habazin at 154 lbs by unanimous decision to win the WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles. That victory made the 25-year-old the quickest fighter to win titles in three different weight classes, and Friday's bout gives her the opportunity to become an undisputed champion in two separate weight classes.
Standing in her way is Dicaire (17-0), the IBF titleholder who is coming off an even more extended layoff. The 34-year-old Canadian last stepped in the ring in November 2019, when she successfully defended her belt for the third straight time (and third time that year).
Here is everything you need to know about Claressa Shields vs. Marie-Eve Dicaire.
The main card begins at 9 p.m. ET. Shields and Dicaire are expected to make their ring walks about 11:30 p.m. ET, although the exact time depends on the length of the earlier bouts.
Shields vs. Dicaire is available on pay-per-view and can be streamed on FITE.TV.
