Tevin Farmer nearly handed William Zepeda his first professional loss before the latter was able to get the judges’ nod via a tight split decision.

The two will run it back Saturday at Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Mexico, and live on DAZN.

Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) knocked Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) down in the fourth round of their November fight, but the Mexican used a high punch output to have his hand raised and claim the interim WBC lightweight world title.

Now, who has the edge entering this rematch? DAZN News analyzes both fighters across three key categories to sort that out here.

Pressure

William Zepeda is in his zone when on the front foot and pressuring opponents.

It is there that the interim WBC lightweight world champion is able to crank up his punch volume enough to overwhelm his foes.

Tevin Farmer disrupted Zepeda’s flow with some sniper-like counterpunching and by resorting to the clinch when deemed necessary.

Still, Zepeda's constant punching was able to win him enough rounds to eke out the razor-thin split decision.

Counterpunching

In their November clash, Farmer found great success sitting on the back foot and patiently waiting to unleash his counterpunch left.

And he timed it to perfection, coming over the top with a catch-and-shoot left after slipping a right cross to make Zepeda taste the canvas in the fourth round.

The shot gave Farmer the confidence to bullishly linger in the pocket with Zepeda and do enough to arguably win the bout.

With this rematch, Farmer’s ability to counterpunch once again arms him with a serious chance to defeat Zepeda.

Mental Warfare

Many fans and boxing critics alike felt like Farmer did enough to have his hand raised against Zepeda and that the Mexican was fortunate to escape with the interim WBC lightweight world title.

That puts the pressure on Zepeda to silence any of those notions in this rematch.

Farmer simply has to be himself, albeit perhaps a bit more aggressive.

When it comes to the mental edge, Farmer might be entering the rematch with it.

Edge: Farmer

Who has the edge in Zepeda vs. Farmer 2?

William Zepeda did what he is accustomed to in throwing an abundance of punches in hopes to drown his opponent out, and yet, Farmer stood right there, catching and shooting effectively to a near upset.

The pressure is on Zepeda — not Farmer — to deliver a rousing performance. That gives Farmer a 2-1 edge entering this fight.

Is Zepeda capable of overwhelming Farmer? Yes, but he will have to prove it.
