The door has shut and the curtain has dropped on another Premier League transfer window - and even as the dust settles, it's easy to see who has enjoyed their shopping spree.

With the 2024-25 season halfway gone, teams have been seeking to bring in fresh blood or cast off old hands in pursuit of success over the remaining months of the campaign.

But for every side that gets the best out of their New Year wish list, there is another left empty-handed and scrambling across the shelves in search of a last-gasp purchase too.

Here, DAZN News picks out the big winners and losers from the 2024-25 Premier League winter transfer window - and just where it went right and wrong for them in the market.

WINNER: Aston Villa

Few teams came out of the other side of January looking stronger than Unai Emery's UEFA Champions League contenders, who have faded in the top flight since Boxing Day.

With close to £100million in sales, topped by the eye-watering departure of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr for £71million, the Villains could have splashed the cash straight out of the gate.

Instead, they have wisely reinvested in a slew of potential low-risk, high-reward loans, including Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, who will wear the number nine for them.

Major ins: Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United, loan), Marco Asensio (Paris Saint-Germain, loan), Axel Disasi (Chelsea, loan)

Major outs: Jaden Philogene (Ipswich Town), Diego Carlos (Fenerbahce), Jhon Duran (Al-Nassr), Emiliano Buendía (Bayer Leverkusen, loan)

LOSER: Manchester United

As if matters at Old Trafford could not get bleaker for their long-suffering fans, a lacklustre January means they go into the rest of the season lighter in attack than they started.

Ruben Amorim's relationship with Rashford proved a matter with the former appearing resolutely uninterested in salvaging, while mega-flop Antony was shipped off to Real Betis.

But the risk of breaching profit and sustainability rules means incomings were slim past Lecce man Patrick Dorgu - and plenty more seem to have turned the Red Devils down.

Major ins: Patrick Dorgu (Lecce)

Major outs: Antony (Real Betis, loan), Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa, loan)

WINNER: Chelsea

It feels strange to call this a successful window for the Blues when they had no incomings to speak of, but it is the sheer number of bodies they have shifted that bodes well.

So many players have struggled for game-time or been frozen out entirely by squad rules in a bloated team, and Enzo Maresca needed to cut the fat from his resurgent squad.

Cesare Casadei has gone for good, joining Torino, while loan exits for Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Axel Disasi and Joao Felix have further helped lighten the load.

Major outs: Cesare Casadei (Torino), Ben Chilwell (Crystal Palace, loan) Carney Chukwuemeka (Borussia Dortmund, loan) Axel Disasi (Aston Villa, loan), Joao Felix (AC Milan, loan)

LOSER: Arsenal

The story of the window was not so much as what happened at Arsenal as what didn't, as the Gunners blanked on a quiet January while seeking to bolster their options.

As the main challenger to league leaders Liverpool, there were arguably few changes needed for Mikel Arteta's men - but their inability to add more firepower could haunt them.

A lunge for Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins was rejected by the player himself and injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus may yet seriously haunt them in the title race this term.

Major outs: Marquinhos (Cruzeiro, loan)

WINNER: Manchester City

Depending where you stand on Pep Guardiola's champions, there is a case to be made that January will not fix the serious woes of an injury crisis and loss of control for City.

But Txiki Begiristain is an astute hand, and cash has been splashed at the Etihad Stadium, including Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush and Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

Porto midfielder Nico González, a late purchase at £49.8m, is the man tasked with filling Rodri's shoes, while club captain Kyle Walker has left on loan with a buy option to Milan.

Major ins: Abdukodir Khusanov (Lens), Vitor Reis (Palmeiras), Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt), Nico Gonzalez (Porto)

Major outs: Kyle Walker (Milan, loan)

LOSER: Newcastle United

Another club still constrained by the PSR guidelines, the Magpies really could have benefitted from a couple of new bodies to bolster their charge for the top four this season.

Instead, Eddie Howe has been forced through another window where recruitment has been non-existent, while he has been forced to part ways with some of his prized assets.

Miguel Almiron has made the move to Atlanta United in MLS on a permanent deal, while Lloyd Kelly has been loaned to Juventus - but Kieran Trippier appears set to stay put.
