Al Ahly, Inter Miami Ends In Enthralling Tie As Lionel Messi Gets Stopped By Dramatic Save At The End
The time finally arrived as the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicked off today with the tournament's opening match in Group A between Al Ahly and Inter Miami, live and free on DAZN ( register for your free account here ) from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Both teams didn't disappoint as Al Ahly and Inter Miami went to a 0-0 tie. The result means each team receives one point.
The game came down to the final moments of the 90+5 when Lionel Messi used his golden left foot to soar the ball high into the air. It looked like the ball was going in and the world would see another magical Messi moment. But Al Ahly goalie Mohamed El Shenawy leaped into the air to get a fingertip on the ball, which then hit the post and went out of bounds.
Inter Miami had one more chance with a corner kick, but yet again, El Shenawy made his fourth and final save in stopping Maxi Falcon, and the game ended in a tie.
The first half belonged to Al Ahly as they had the advantage for the bulk of the opening 45 minutes. Like his counterpart in the second, Inter Miami goalie Oscar Ustari kept his team in the game with one spectacular save after another to stop eight shots overall.
Both teams return on Thursday as Inter Miami takes on Porto while Al Ahly faces off with Palmeiras.
