Al Ain and Juventus will lock horns in this Audi Field battle, with both keen to open their respective campaigns with victory in Washington. The United Arab Emirates heavyweights booked their place at the finals by securing their first AFC Champions League title for more than 20 years when they beat out Yokohama F. Marinos 6-3 on aggregate in the two-legged decider. Juventus, meanwhile, ensured they would take part in the global extravaganza via the ranking pathway, following consistently impressive showings over the course of a four-year period from 2021 to 2024 in the UEFA Champions League.
Juventus head coach Igor Tudor said midfielder Teun Koopmeiners and center-back Federico Gatti have trained well in working their way back from injuries, but both players are unlikely to start against Al Ain.
Rui Patrício, who joined Al Ain on a short-term contract last month, is set to make his debut for the club.
“Just like any team that is taking part in this major tournament, we have great ambitions. We hope to live up to our fans’ expectations, as well as those of every football fan. Nothing is impossible in football. We’ll play with everything we’ve got and we hope to achieve our goal of representing Al Ain with pride."
Soufiane Rahimi, Al Ain forward
"It’s an amazing opportunity, especially being in America. I think that’s what's most exciting about it. I think any professional athlete and anyone that’s competitive has a goal to go there and win. So that’s obviously what our mindset is – it’s to go there and do our best in the tournament and try and win a trophy. It’s an amazing opportunity, especially being in America."
Weston McKennie, Juventus midfielder
"Finally we get to start! It will be a beautiful competition, much anticipated. It is the first Club World Cup, there is a great desire to start and there is great enthusiasm in the team. We have worked well and we want to do well, that is for sure. We did not come here to participate. When Juve participates, it does so to win. We have respect for everyone, these are the best teams in the world, so it will not be easy, but there is only one way to take on the challenges that await in this tournament: thinking game by game. Then we will see how it goes."
Igor Tudor, Juventus head coach
