Altrincham midfielder Lucas Weaver hails spirit in the squad as club continue unbeaten run

Altrincham are one of the National League's most in-form teams, and continued their unbeaten run with Tuesday's 2-1 win over Hartlepool.

Phil Parkinson's men haven't suffered defeat for eleven games now, putting the Robins firmly in the race for a play-off place come the end of the season.

The match-winner in midweek was midfielder Lucas Weaver, who scored his first league goal for the club to see his side get all three points, and he believes that the current spirit in the camp is getting the best of the players.

"The lads and the vibe around the squad is better than it's been all season," he told Curly and Aaron McLean on DAZN's Multi-Match Live

"Everything is just ticking at the minute and we're taking each game as it comes, any challenge we're just rising above it. That's eleven unbeaten now, and to a man everyone is chipping in and been top-drawer in training and that's showing on the pitch."

Weaver moved up four leagues to sign for Altrincham last summer, and after some loan spells earlier in the campaign has broken into Parkinson's team. The midfielder credits his gaffer for knowing how to handle his talent, as they are both now getting the rewards.

"He's been exceptional since the day I walked in," Weaver said when asked about this manager.

"He's taken me under his wing and he always said that he had a plan for me from the start, he had a vision and knew what I could do and he just wanted to wait for the right time - which is what he's done.

"It's tough as a player to feel you're not ready and to be sent on loan, but looking back it was the best thing for me. As a man-manager he's top-drawer."

There's a real battle for the play-offs brewing in the top half of the table, with Altrincham sitting in sixth, and a whole cluster of clubs around them with the same aims. However, as expected, Weaver isn't entertaining any promotion thoughts just yet.

Adding: "As cliche as it sounds, you can only take one game as it comes.

"There's only so far ahead you can look in this league with the amount of quality there is. Every team can beat every team so you can't bank on any results.

"You've got to earn your stripes and win those games to even start thinking about promotion and fixating on the play-off places."
