Second time's the charm: Just what trophies has Ange Postecoglou won in his sophomore term?

Ange Postecoglou kept his remarkable streak of second-season success alive on Wednesday as Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final.

The North London club ended their near-two-decade wait for silverware with success in Bilbao, as Brennan Johnson's first-half finish proved the difference in a scrappy encounter.

Tottenham were restricted to just three shots and barely over a quarter of possession, but held firm against a relatively limp United display to get their hands on a European prize.

Not only does it mean that Spurs will play UEFA Champions League football next term though, it also means Postecoglou keeps a remarkable professional club streak alive.

The Australian famously stated at the start of the campaign that he typically wins trophies in his second season with a club - and now, he has delivered on his promise again.

But just what honours has the former Socceroos boss won during his sophomore campaigns? DAZN News takes a look through the history books for his past glories.

South Melbourne

Having taken up the post of head coach at the National Soccer League club in 1996, there was no first term joy for Postecoglou in Victoria - but a year later, he delivered in style.

South Melbourne romped to the Premiership in the regular season, qualifying for the finals where they kicked on to win the Grand Final over rivals Carlton to become champions.

Brisbane Roar

Over a decade later, Postecoglou - after a few single season spells and a stint as Australia U-20 coach - was back in top-flight domestic football with the A-League.

He came up empty in his first term, but again, repeated his trick the second time, winning the Premiership and then the Championship against Central Coast Mariners in 2011.

Yokohama F. Marinos

A move to Japan after a successful spell in charge of the Socceroos saw Postecoglou trying his hand outside of his comfort zone - and once again, fans only had to wait two years.

This time, he guided one of Japan's most storied clubs to a fourth J League title and sixth domestic crown overall, edging FC Tokyo by six points for the 2019 season crown.

Success in Japan earned Postecoglou his shot in Europe, where he bucked the trend and instead claimed a Scottish Premiership and League Cup double in his first year.

But that did not stop him from going all the way and making it a domestic treble in Glasgow for his second and final campaign, with a glorious 2022-23 season to behold.

Tottenham Hotspur

Plenty raised their eyebrows at the choice by Spurs to raid north of the border, and after a flying start to his first season faded, many questions lingered for Postecoglou.

Instead, after one of the worst domestic campaigns in recent memory in north London, the manager has battled the odds to succeed again, ending their trophy drought too.
