Aston Villa kicked off what could be a massive week in club history with a 4-2 win over visiting Liverpool on Friday, securing a spot in next season's Champions League.
For John McGinn, it was a much-needed victory for the Villans.
"We had to get over line, we've lost the last few league performances," McGinn, Villa's captain, said to Sky Sports about the team finally cementing their berth in the Champions League after failing to win in each of their three prior Premier League games.
Villa will next be in action on Wednesday when they play in the Europa League final against German outfit SC Freiburg. It will be their opportunity to capture a major European trophy for the first time since 1982, and McGinn said Friday's win over the Liverpool allows his side to be confident ahead of their midweek title clash.
"We need to be," he said. "How can you not be? It allows us to be excited and enjoy Wednesday properly."
However, McGinn stressed that Villa will need to be at the top of their game when they meet Freiburg in Istanbul.
"The supporters have got to enjoy it," he said. "We're slight favourites but in finals anything can happen. We've got to stay focused.
"It's what you dream of when you're young. You've got to enjoy it but have fun."
