Bayern Munich were frustrated by visitors PSG on Wednesday, as the Parisians advanced to the Champions League final after holding the German giants to a 1-1 draw.
With PSG taking last week's first leg by a 5-4 scoreline, they also claimed the aggregate victory and moved on to their second straight final.
For Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the difference between the teams was clear.
"I think we didn't have the killer instinct in attack today," Neuer told DAZN. "We didn't have clear-cut chances today, but we still created enough to score."
Paris star Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the third minute, stunning the hosts and allowing PSG to take a more defensive stance for the remainder of the match. Instead of an encouraging wide-open game like last week's encounter, PSG conceded possession to Bayern on Wednesday but didn't allow the back-and-forth that defined the first leg.
"We didn’t have many clear-cut chances, but when you do get those moments... look at Paris – they were simply killers, scoring five goals the way they did in the first leg," Neuer said. "That’s exactly what we needed today. And I think you could see that we were actually close to reaching the final, but we weren’t able to finish the job."
While Bayern would eventually find an equalizer through Harry Kane in the dying moments, the tie already felt like it had already been decided by that point.
"Our goal unfortunately came a bit too late," Neuer said. "We didn't have time to create another chance or maybe even get a set-piece situation.
"At that point it was too late. I think that key moment in the game was simply missing. The stadium was there, we were there as well, but I think in Paris' penalty area we just weren't clinical enough."
