Blackpool edge out fellow strugglers Doncaster

PA

Blackpool climbed out of the relegation places with a nervy win over fellow strugglers Doncaster.

Early substitute Tom Bloxham scored the only goal to extend the Seasiders’ impressive recent form. As for Rovers, their wretched run now stands at just one win in their last 15 league games.

The hosts took the lead after just 17 minutes. A simple ball down the left-hand side of Doncaster’s defence saw Danny Imray escape his marker and pick out Bloxham, a sixth-minute replacement for the injured Dale Taylor, and he had the easy task of netting from a few yards out.

Blackpool almost doubled their lead in spectacular style when Albie Morgan tried his luck from distance with an ambitious volley from a well-worked corner routine but Doncaster’s Ian Lawlor was alert and pushed it away from danger.

Rovers barely fashioned anything going forward in the first half and hardly fared better after the break, but showed slightly more intent although Jay McGrath’s tame header was straight at Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Their best chance came when Brandon Hanlan picked up a fortunate ricochet inside the Blackpool box but after his effort beat Peacock-Farrell, Olly Casey did excellently to get back on the line and clear it.
