Crystal Palace held off a tricky Brighton & Hove Albion with a much-needed 1-0 victory at the American Express Stadium on Sunday.

The result was a long time coming for Palace, who had not won a match of any kind since December 7. The club have subsequently plummeted down the table amid the nine-match Premier League winless skid, part of a run of 12 games in all competitions without a victory, and Sunday's result was a welcome end to a particularly rough patch.

"It's a lot of relief," Palace manager Oliver Glasner told Sky Sports after the final whistle. "I told the players we can talk about it and do everything, but you need to win and that's what they did today. Congratulations to them.

"Maybe it wasn't the best Premier League game ever, but both teams were fighting hard. Feeling absolutely great."

Ismaila Sarr provided the game's only goal with an opportunistic strike in the 61st minute, but Glasner also gave credit to Palace's defending as they limited their hosts to just two shots on target despite holding just 37% of the possession.

The team also featured a brand new attacking focal point on Sunday, in £43 million deadline acquisition Jørgen Strand Larsen, and Glasner believes it'll take some time for the new-look forward line to gel.

"It was the clean sheet that helped us [win on Sunday]," he said. "First half, we didn't create enough, it's normal with players in their first competitive game together.

"Sarr wins the second ball and then it's a great run. Today we took the chance."

As for what Palace will need to build momentum off Sunday's win and avoid another lengthy run of poor results, Glasner wants his side to keep things simple.

"It's the experience," he explained. "In tight games, it's all about consistency. We played well in the other games, but we make one mistake and get punished.

"We were good in defence [against Brighton]. We did the basics right."
