Manchester City took hold of the top spot in the Premier League after defeating Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor on Wednesday, and Pep Guardiola wants his side to keep their winning ways going.
The Sky Blues took an early lead through Erling Haaland's well-executed breakaway in the sixth minute and piled the pressure on their hosts for the remainder of the match, but they found the Clarets to be stubborn as only one goal was scored throughout the 90 minutes.
And while Man City would have preferred to steamroll the home side — who were officially relegated with the loss — any victory will do as they aim for yet another league title under Guardiola.
"We played a really good game, unfortunately we missed a lot of chances," the Man City manager told the BBC. "We defended better in the second half. Second half we had less problems."
Man City find themselves in this position after defeating Arsenal over the weekend, leading to the Gunners losing their grip on the top spot in the standings on Wednesday for the first time since early October. Guardiola admitted that the top-of-the-table clash took a lot out of his side, and commended his players for finding another gear against Burnley despite the short turnaround.
"It was such a demanding game on Sunday," he said. "It is not easy after three days but in the Premier League you have to adjust. We are used to doing it.
"We competed really well [against Burnley], we made a really good game but it's a pity the chances we had."
Now tied on points with Arsenal but having scored more goals than the North Londoners, the title race is in Man City's hands. For Guardiola, the arithmetic is simple.
"Now we have the FA Cup [semi-final] on Saturday and after that we have five [league] games," Guardiola said. "The only chance is to win all the games."
