The first two Champions League quarter-final match-ups were decided on Tuesday, with Atletico Madrid hosting Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain traveling to Liverpool for their respective second legs.

Here are some of the bigger talking points from Tuesday's Champions League action.

Dembele double sinks Reds

Liverpool knew they were in for an uphill battle after losing the first leg 2-0, and while they fought valiantly it was not to be for the Reds as they fell by the same scoreline on Tuesday and lost 4-0 on aggregate.

A rainy night at Anfield saw the home side push from the outset, with Liverpool outpossessing and outshooting the Parisians. However, the Reds were unable to put a serious scare into their visitors despite their hard work, and their lack of finish came back to haunt them when Ousmane Dembele scored his and PSG's first goal of the night in the 72nd minute.

The Ballon d'Or winner followed that up with a second goal in stoppage time, with Liverpool desperately throwing numbers forward. The end result was PSG joy and Liverpool despair, as the French side moved on to the semi-finals.

PSG will take on the winner of Bayern Munich-Real Madrid in the next round.

Barça remontada denied

Barcelona had designs on a comeback after losing 2-0 last week in Madrid, and for a while it looked like they might actually pull it off.

The Catalans came out flying on home soil, with Lamine Yamal putting his team on the board in the fourth minute. Ferran Torres scored Barça's second goal 20 minutes later, and it appeared as though the comeback was on.

Atletico had other ideas however, and in the 31st minute Ademola Lookman struck for the visitors, putting the onus back on Barcelona to keep pushing forward.

The final hour was a tantalizing match, as the teams combined for a staggering 29 shots as the action flowed back and forth. Unfortunately for the home side, they could not find another goal — even having one called back for offside — and ultimately could not equalize on the aggregate, allowing Atleti to advance despite losing 2-1 on the day.

Atletico now await confirmation of their semi-final opposition, with either Arsenal or Sporting Lisbon moving on to face the Spanish side.
