Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain are gearing up for FIFA Club World Cup final showdown in New Jersey.
It may be their highest-stakes meeting yet but this is simply the latest in a long line of titanic tussles between these two giants of European football. This will be their ninth meeting in total, and they played six times in a hectic three-year spell between 2014 and 2016.
It has been a closely matched rivalry, too, with two wins for the London side, three for the Parisians, three draws - and plenty of outstanding goals.
The teams' first-ever meeting turned into the Didier Drogba show in this opening UEFA Champions League group match. The Ivorian added extra spice to the game because he had only joined in the summer from PSG's rivals, Marseille, and netted twice to silence the fans barracking him. Chelsea captain John Terry had earlier opened the scoring.
PSG coach Vahid Halilhodzic watched a much-improved performance from his side at Stamford Bridge as they held their hosts to a well-earned goalless draw. Mateja Kezman, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole came close for Chelsea as did PSG striker Reinaldo.
PSG seized the advantage in the first leg of this Champions League quarter-final after Ezequiel Lavezzi netted an early half-volley to put the hosts ahead before Eden Hazard levelled from the penalty spot. An own goal from David Luiz restored PSG's lead before a brilliant solo effort from Javier Pastore in injury time.
On a night of drama in west London, a late goal from Demba Ba sparked scenes of celebration from coach Jose Mourinho as his strike added to a first-half goal from Andre Schurrle to take the hosts through on away goals and into the semi-finals.
The French side were disappointed at having to settle for a draw in this Round of 16 first leg Champions League clash after Branislav Ivanovic headed Jose Mourinho's team in front. Edinson Cavani levelled for the hosts, who dominated but could not find a winner.
Ten-man PSG gained their revenge after an incredible night. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off after 31 minutes and Gary Cahill fired in what looked like a late winner until David Luiz netted against his former club. Eden Hazard scored a penalty in extra time, but Thiago Silva's iconic late header saw PSG advance on away goals.
Another Round of 16 clash again ended in Parisian celebrations. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's deflected free-kick fired the home side into an advantage, but John Mikel Obi levelled. Again, Cavani netted against Chelsea by turning in Angel Di Maria's pass to take an advantage to London.
Chelsea again crashed out to the Ibrahimovic-inspired visitors after the Swede set up Adrien Rabiot for the opening goal and netted the winner, despite Diego Costa's leveller in between handing the English side hope.
