FIFA president Gianni Infantino has teased the possibility of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo playing at this year's Club World Cup

Ronaldo's Al Nassr failed to qualify for the tournament meaning the Portuguese forward will be absent from this summer's proceedings in the United States with Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane all set to battle it out for the trophy.

However, while Ronaldo will not be making the trip to the States for the time being, Infantino told YouTuber IShowSpeed that the 40-year-old could still feature, but it is unknown as to whether Ronaldo would be placed on loan or involved in a permanent transfer.

"Ronaldo might play for one of the teams at the Club World Cup. There are discussions," Infantino said.

"Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup, yeah. There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup … who knows, who knows.”

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed on Friday that Morocco's Wydad are interested in signing Ronaldo with FIFA introducing a transfer window between June 1 and June 10 to allow any last minute deals before the tournament to be made.

Wydad begin their Club World Cup campaign on June 18 when they face Premier League powerhouse Manchester City in Group G which also contains Juventus and Al Ain

While Infantino decided not to delve into whether Ronaldo will play, Al Nassr have not taken too kindly to the comments with a new deal to keep the Portuguese international in Riyadh reportedly close to being agreed.
