Tensions are said to be rising inside the Crystal Palace dressing room amid growing uncertainty over the future of Jean-Philippe Mateta.
According to Football Insider, Palace players have been left frustrated by the striker’s handling of his situation after he pushed for a move away from the club during the transfer window.
Interest from AC Milan had placed Mateta among those seeking a late exit, but a knee injury ultimately halted any potential deal.
The France international made it clear he wanted a new challenge, but with a move failing to materialise and a possible operation now under consideration, his immediate future at Selhurst Park remains unclear.

Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown has suggested that Mateta’s approach has not gone down well internally, with some senior figures in the squad unhappy at how events have unfolded.
The frustration appears to stem not only from the public nature of the situation, but also from its impact on the group during a period where focus and cohesion are at a premium.
Reports claim Mateta declined to feature in a recent match against Nottingham Forest, citing his mental state, while questions have also been raised about his involvement in training.
Those factors are said to have contributed to unease among teammates who remain fully committed to the club’s immediate objectives.
Mateta’s frustration comes despite a steady return in front of goal across the past two Premier League seasons.
In 2025-26, he has scored eight goals in 23 league appearances, following a 14-goal campaign in 2024–25 across 37 matches.
Palace’s decision to strengthen their attacking options during the window has further complicated Mateta’s position, increasing competition for places and sharpening the sense that patience within the squad is wearing thin.

From Mateta’s perspective, the desire for a move reflects a belief that he has outgrown Palace’s current ceiling. Having been central to one of the most successful periods in the club’s recent history, the striker appears to be seeking a platform that better matches his ambitions.
A failed move, combined with injury and the arrival of new attacking options, risks leaving Mateta in a position where frustration only deepens.
Even if he returns to fitness quickly, reintegrating into a group that has pushed on without him will likely not be straightforward.
If he leaves, the club will want to ensure the exit is on their terms rather than dictated by lingering unrest, and the coming months are likely to bring more division within the Palace squad.
