England vs. Mexico: How have the Three Lions fared against El Tri?
After the narrowest of victories, England head to the Estadio Azteca in the early hours of Monday morning to face the daunting prospect of co-hosts Mexico in the World Cup Round of 16.
The historic venue has staged some of the most memorable moments in the tournament's history, most notably Diego Maradona's iconic 'Hand of God' goal when Argentina defeated the Three Lions 40 years ago.
Much has been made of Mexico's record at their home in the capital, Mexico City, with El Tri only losing twice since the stadium opened in 1966.
But how have the Three Lions fared against the co-hosts? Here, DAZN News analyses the history of the international fixture.
England have dominated Mexico in head-to-head
The first meeting between England and Mexico took place in 1952, when El Tri defeated the Three Lions 2-1 in a friendly at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario.
However, the Central American side have only triumphed once since then, with England winning six and the two sides playing out one goalless draw.
The Three Lions have triumphed in the last four meetings, the most recent being a 3-1 win at Wembley Stadium in 2010 with Ledley King, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson on the scoresheet, but all were friendlies and took place on home soil.
While Mexico may have struggled overall in the fixture, they can take massive confidence heading into the World Cup Round of 16 clash as they are unbeaten in three against the Three Lions on home turf.

The sole World Cup meeting between the sides
England and Mexico have only faced off in the World Cup once, and the Three Lions will be hoping this is a good omen as it ended with them lifting the trophy in 1966.
The group stage clash took place at the old Wembley Stadium, with England claiming a vital win courtesy of goals from Bobby Charlton and Roger Hunt in either half.
Sir Alf Ramsey's side then topped the group with two wins and a draw without conceding a goal and went on to defeat West Germany 4-2 in the final.
Why are Mexico so good on home soil?
Mexico may have never lifted a World Cup, but they have proved an ominous opponent at the Azteca and have been one of the standout sides at this year's World Cup.
El Tri have played 89 matches at the Azteca, winning 70, drawing 17 and losing just two, while they are unbeaten in 10 World Cup games at the 87,523-seater stadium.
What will make the stadium so tricky for the Three Lions is its altitude, with it sitting 2,200 meters above sea level, meaning players will fatigue quicker and the ball will move differently to what they are used to.
Then there is the infamous atmosphere, which commentators have alluded to during the competition, and with Mexico the home side, they will have the 12th man roaring them on.
