Do DR Congo stand a chance of beating England in World Cup shock?

England knockout matches always seem to come with added anxiety, and today's World Cup Round of 32 clash is no different. 

The Three Lions will look to reach the Round of 16 in Atlanta, but standing in their way is DR Congo, an unknown nation to many when it comes to football. 

On the surface, England are favourites, they have the better squad and should make easy work of a DR Congo side which qualified as one of the best third-placed teams. 

But while DR Congo may not have a myriad of ways to trouble England, they do have the potential to produce an upset which would send shockwaves across the tournament. 

Do DR Congo choose a low block or high press? 

England have already struggled against one African side when they drew 0-0 with Ghana in the group stage. 

It was no surprise the tactics Ghana applied in that game, a low block stifled every one of England's attacking threat leading to questions as to whether the Three Lions had the spark to unlock teams with a solid defence. 

You would expect DR Congo to take some inspiration from Ghana, however, they do tend to take the game to their opponents.

DR Congo may not have the star power of England, but their players are more than capable of being a threat. 

An attack led by Cedric Bakambu, with a supporting cast of Yoanne Wissa and Nathanael Mbuku have proven that they can create and score chances when the opportunity presents itself, and do so in lightning quick fashion. 

Defence will have to be tough to crack

DR Congo's defence will be vital if they are to stun England. 

Under manager Sebastien Desabre, the defence has undergone a remarkable transformation. 

Over the three qualification play-off matches, DR Congo conceded just one goal, and then just three goals during the group stage. 

England have so much creative and attacking talent, so every member of this DR Congo defence will have to put in a career best performance to keep the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and others quiet. 

Ghana have already proven it's possible, and after being involved in high pressure matches in order to just reach the World Cup, the strong mental state is there to deliver when it matters most.
