Pundits are split on who will come out on top in the FIFA Club World Cup final between Chelsea and PSG, but Opta’s Supercomputer has delivered a decisive verdict.
Opta's prediction model estimates the probability of each match outcome by combining data from their Power Rankings and betting market odds.
The Power Rankings are a global system that orders thousands of football teams based on ability, taking into account recent and historical performances.
The model simulates fixtures thousands of times to determine the likelihood of a win, loss, or draw, and assigns a percentage value for each outcome.
Despite winning a historic treble comprising Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League, PSG did not usurp Liverpool atop the rankings until very recently.
But dominant performances in the FIFA Club World Cup, including an impressive 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals and a spectacular 4-0 defeat of Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid in the semi-finals, have solidified their spot as the world's best team.
Chelsea ranks eighth in the world.
The Blues' solid if unspectacular Premier League season, where they finished fourth and trailed Liverpool by 15 points, undoubtedly played a role in their initial ranking.
But their stock has since climbed, thanks to a UEFA Conference League title and an impressive run at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, including a 2-0 win over Brazil's Fluminense to earn their spot in the final.
Given the disparity in rankings between PSG and Chelsea, it comes as no surprise that Opta's prediction model sides with Les Parisiens to beat Chelsea and be crowned the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup winners.
The current odds, as of 3:30 pm on Friday, June 11, favour a PSG win by a probability of 64.19% to Chelsea's 35.81%.
Will Opta's prediction hold true, or can Chelsea defeat the odds?
There's only one way to find out. Tune in on Sunday, July 13, to find out. Kick-off is at 3:00pm ET / 12:00pm PT / 8:00pm BST / 9:00 pm CEST.
