The Argentina international added to his haul with Barcelona shortly after the restart in Atlanta, Georgia, as he gave his side the lead in their Group A encounter.
Messi had already seen team-mate Telasco Segovia cancel out Samu Aghehowa's opener just after half-time, and missed a 35-yard attempt only moments prior himself.
But after he was fouled just on the edge of the box, the superstar forward stepped up to score his maiden strike at this year's revamped tournament with an absolute beauty.
