Quansah hit with two-match ban, how do England solve right back crisis ahead of Norway quarter-final?

England have suffered a major blow ahead of Saturday's World Cup quarter-final with Norway after right back Jarell Quansah was hit with a two-match ban. 

This came as a result of being sent off in the thrilling 3-2 win over Mexico in the Round of 16 on Sunday night with a high challenge on Jesus Gallardo in the 54th minute. 

Quansah will now miss England's match against Norway and will also be unavailable for a potential semi-final next Wednesday, where the Three Lions could face either Argentina or Switzerland. 

The 23-year-old's absence has further added to England's never-ending problems at right back, but how does manager Thomas Tuchel make sure that side of the pitch does not become a weakness? 

Is first choice James ready to return? 

Chelsea's Reece James is England's first-choice right back, but he has been unavailable since the team's second group match against Ghana after picking up a hamstring injury. 

Tuchel has been cautious, waiting for James to be fully fit before returning him to the fold in the knockout stages, and it looked like he would be ready to play in Saturday's quarter-final. 

However, reports over recent days suggest James may not be ready, meaning Tuchel could be forced to play one of his defenders out of position, or select Djed Spence, who has had mixed performances at this World Cup.

Spence starts after confidence-boosting Mexico cameo

One name which could strike fear into England fans is Djed Spence. 

In James' absence, Spence has found himself in the starting eleven, but his performance against DR Congo in the last 32 was subject to a lot of criticism. 

There have also been numerous videos posted of Tuchel targeting Spence with commands from the touchline, but Spence insists the relationship with his manager is strong. 

He did come off the bench against Mexico and played a part in an inspiring England defensive display, which would have boosted his confidence, so maybe starting against Norway could benefit Spence. 

Move centre back Konsa to right back 

Tuchel may opt to move one of his defenders out of position, and that would likely be centre back Ezri Konsa. 

If Konsa does move to right back, expect either John Stones or Dan Burn to partner Marc Guehi in the centre of England's back four. 

While Konsa may not have the same attacking threat on the right-hand side compared to a Quansah or James, his defensive ability will be the priority as he attempts to stop Norway's dangerous wingers.
