Henderson rushed to hospital after suffering freak injury during England celebrations

Jordan Henderson’s freak wrist injury soured a night to remember for England.

Thanks to Jude Bellingham’s double and Harry Kane’s ice-cool penalty, the Three Lions wrapped up a 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico to book their place in the World Cup quarter-finals. 

Despite playing much of the second half with 10 men following Jarell Quansah’s red card, Thomas Tuchel’s men dug in to record a famous win at the Azteca.

But Henderson, who had been booked while warming up, was injured during the post-match celebrations when he took a tumble while jumping over the advertising hoardings.

As the Brentford star received treatment at the side of the pitch, skipper Kane said: "Hendo just fell over there, I think he's OK. Something to do with his arm."

"He's in a bit of bother,” added Bellingham. “But our medical team have got it under control.

"Everyone was there to support him and even that was something beautiful to see."

After singing Wonderwall with the England faithful, Henderson was surrounded by concerned team-mates when he ended up in a heap.

Dan Burn was the first to reach the veteran midfielder, who stayed down and was clearly in a lot of pain.

Burn quickly summoned medical assistance and Henderson, 36, was eventually carried off on a stretcher while being given oxygen.

Amid jubilant scenes, Tuchel confirmed that what had happened was as bad as it looked.

The England boss said: “We have an injury now at the end of the match with Jordan, who needs to go to hospital and has a wrist injury that is quite serious.

“So I'm sad and concerned about that."

The German added: "It just doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us.

“I don't know the procedure that is going on. I just did the [media duties] and the doc told me he's in the hospital."

Henderson will remain in Mexico City with an England staff member while the rest of the team returns to their training base in Kansas City, Missouri.

It appears his World Cup could be over but the Three Lions will hope the injury is not as bad as first feared.
