Canada make history
The co-hosts had a good day on Thursday, especially in Vancouver, where Canada made sporting history by winning their first-ever World Cup game - and did it in style, too.
Jesse Marsch's men hit nine-man Qatar for six in a dominating performance that saw striker Johnathan David hit a hat-trick, only the second we've seen at the finals so far.
Canada now have four points from their first two games, which means they will at least have a chance of going through in the third spot regardless of their result in their final game against Switzerland.
A point there will confirm a passage to the knockout rounds for the very first time, but they will have to do it without midfielder Ismael Kone, who was stretchered off during the game and will miss the rest of the tournament after breaking his leg.
Mexican's waving into next round
Canada aren't the only co-hosts celebrating, as Mexico became the first team to reach the last 32 with their overnight victory over South Korea.
Luis Rumo's goal five minutes after the break ensured a victory for the Mexicans and means they cannot be caught in Group A, after winning back-to-back games.
The task now will be for them to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 1986, but standing in their way before that could be a meeting with England.
Hosts go quack-ers
One thing Mexico may have in their favour is their new mascot, Merlin the Mexican duck!
The family pet has been walking the streets of Mexico City, wearing his own custom national team shirt and has become an unofficial ambassador for the co-hosts.
Fans have been seen celebrating with the bird and embracing Merlin as they enjoy their first two wins of the tournament.
