Free agent Kieran Trippier set to join relegated Wolves
Former Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier is set to join relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer.
Trippier's contract at St. James' Park expired at the end of the season, bringing an end to four and a half years at St. James Park.
The former England international made 160 appearances for Newcastle and helped win the club's first trophy in 55 years when the Magpies beat Liverpool to lift the Carabao Cup last year.
As reported by Sky Sports, Trippier has agreed a two-year deal with Wolves with the option of a third as he looks to help the West Midlands side return to the Premier League at the first time of asking from the EFL Championship.
Trippier brings experience to Wolves promotion charge
Wolves have beaten a number of clubs looking to acquire Trippier's services, with manager Rob Edwards looking to bring experience to a squad in transition.
Trippier has played for some big clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, and amassed 54 caps for England, scoring just one goal, and that was in the 2-1 loss to Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.
It's not just experience playing a part in why Wolves have chosen to sign Trippier, it's also the need for homegrown players.
The club cannot sign any non-homegrown players unless some outgoings are made, with goalkeeper Jose Sa and striker Hwang Hee-chan set to leave Molineux.
With Trippier being someone who knows the English football pyramid inside out, Edwards is hoping he can inspire those around him to understand the culture of the club and help them succeed in one of football's toughest leagues.
