Forest Green Rovers' forward Christian Doidge still thinks there's everything to play for in race for promotion

The race for automatic promotion in the National League has been one of the season's most fascinating contests.

This week, Barnet took a foothold in the battle as they defeated second-placed York City to take a seven-point lead at the top of the division. But, given the quality of the chasing pack, there's still plenty of fight left in York, along with fellow chasers Forest Green Rovers.

Rovers dropped points in their goalless draw with Ebbsfleet in midweek but remain in the mix. Speaking on this week's Multi-Match Live on DAZN, striker Christian Doidge is confident in the current squad and what they can achieve this season.

"The mood is good. We had a massive turnover of players in the summer, which was definitely needed," he told Curly and Aaron McLean.

"The club in the last few years had back-to-back relegations, so it needed to reset, and I think the manager did that with the recruits he brought in.

"We brought in plenty of experience, lots of players that have been promoted at other clubs, and that's been massive for us.

"The vibe at the club is very good, obviously frustrated at the week we've just had, as we wanted to get maximum points. But there's a lot of points to play for, and we're all really up for it."

Doidge is in his second spell at The New Lawn and is already a hero at the club following a memorable play-off winner in his first stint with the club. He was Steve Cotterill's first signing upon taking charge of the club, and the striker has singled out his manager as a reason for re-signing for the club as well as their success this campaign.

Adding: "After speaking with him and with other people who have worked for him, you know exactly where you stand.

"As a player, I love honesty, and he certainly does that. I've loved working for him, we get on really well, and all the boys love him, too. We really fight for him on the weekend.

"So, I love being back, I love working for the gaffer, and hopefully, we can win some more games and keep pushing to get promoted."
