Harry Kane insists ‘no problem’ for England after ankle knock

PA

England captain Harry Kane played down fears of an injury scare after being substituted late on in Bayern Munich’s win over Eintracht Frankfurt having taken a knock to his ankle.

Luis Diaz had given Bayern the lead inside 15 seconds and Kane then swept in his 11th league goal already – becoming the first player to do so in the opening six games of a Bundesliga season.

Diaz struck again with six minutes left before Kane – who had taken a tumble in a collision with Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos, but was able to resume playing – was replaced late on.

The sight of England’s talisman then grimacing as he initially looked in some discomfort would have been a worrying sight for Thomas Tuchel ahead of the upcoming friendly against Wales and World Cup qualifier in Latvia.

Kane needed treatment and ice on his right ankle before being helped back to his feet and taking a slow jog. He was able to play on, eventually being replaced by Nicolas Jackson in the 85th minute.

The England captain, though, confirmed after the match he did not feel he had taken any serious damage.

“I am recovering at the moment – I took a knock,” Kane said, quoted on Bayern Munich’s website.

“A few days and then I should be fine, so no problem for the national team. I will be there on Monday.”
