Jovon Makama led the way with a hat-trick as Championship strugglers Norwich cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a dominant 5-1 win over Walsall at Carrow Road.
The big striker made it 12 goals for the season while Matej Jurasek and Tony Springett netted their first goals for the club in a one-sided encounter, with the League Two visitors barely laying a glove on their opponents.
The Canaries made their first incisive attack count on 15 minutes, Jurasek driving home from just inside the box after being set up by Anis Ben Slimane.
From then it was one-way traffic and the Championship side doubled their advantage nine minutes later.
It looked as though the Saddlers had had an amazing escape when Aden Flint somehow blocked Jack Stacey’s effort on the line, but the in-form Makama was on hand to prod home the rebound.
The chances continued for Norwich, with Myles Roberts making good stops to prevent Makama and Jurasek netting again and Evan Weir clearing off the line to deny Ben Slimane.
The tie was over as a contest three minutes after the restart, however, when Makama made it 3-0 with his second of the afternoon, wriggling away from his marker to fire home on the turn.
Makama wasted no time in completing his hat-trick as a fast-raiding Ben Chrisene cut the ball back into his path for a side-footed finish past the exposed Roberts.
Walsall pulled one back in spectacular fashion on 67 minutes when substitute Courtney Clarke cut in from the left and found the top corner from 30 yards, but Norwich had the final say in stoppage time as Springett latched onto a superb through-ball from fellow substitute
Liam Gibbs to complete the scoring.
