Liverpool relieved some of the growing tension around the club on Sunday, with a 2-0 win over West Ham as they look to turn their dismal campaign around.

The Reds' Premier League title defence has gone up in flames after a run that has seen them lose nine of their last 12 games, prompting suggestions that Arne Slot's job could be under threat.

However, after a much-needed win at the London Stadium, the Merseysiders will now look to get back to winning ways at Anfield when they host Sunderland on Wednesday night.

Over the last two home fixtures, Liverpool have shipped nine goals, and their recent run has seen them fall out of title contention.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN News, thanks to Sports betting site BetWright, former striker Emile Heskey believes there's only one thing the club must aim for this season.

He said, "The reality is when you're at a club like Liverpool, trophies mean a lot. Winning things means a hell of a lot. So you could see them putting all their eggs in one basket to try and win the Champions League.

"The top four for me would also be a successful season after what they've gone through. And that's key because you want to be in the Champions League.

"So that is their aim in the league now. Get back into that Champions League, stay in the top four so they can at least have Champions League football next season."

As someone who moved to Liverpool for big money to lead the line for the club, the former England hitman knows all about what it takes to be a successful striker for the club, and he's hoping to see more from Alexander Isak now that the Swede has opened his Premier League account for the club.

Isak scored the opener in the win over West Ham, and now that he's off the mark, Heskey believes we may see more of the player Liverpool broke the bank for this summer.

"I think once you get that goal, I think it just makes you relax a little bit and eases a little bit of pressure that you can now go and play with probably a little less fear.

"He's probably playing with a little bit of anxiety, a little bit of fear. Now he can just go and play and enjoy it.

" We've seen what he's capable of doing. We've seen all the good things that he's done at Newcastle.

"It's a lot different at Liverpool because teams will come and sit back and try and hit you on the counter-attack. Whereas at Newcastle, you've probably got a little bit more counter-attacking football, so your pace could be used a lot more.

"So he's got to look at things differently. And then as well, the team have got to figure out how to incorporate him into everything."

After hosting surprise package Sunderland, Liverpool go to Leeds this weekend before a massive Champions League tie next week against Inter in Milan.
