Liverpool may have just finished their Champions League campaign, but they already have their sights set on getting back into the competition.
The Reds were defeated 2-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the quarter-finals on Tuesday, giving the French side a 4-0 aggregate victory. It marked the end of Liverpool's involvement in the current competition, but defender Ibrahima Konaté believes his team deserved a better fate.
"Today we created many chances and I think on the pitch we were the better team," Konaté told Prime Video. "It was a little bit unfair, it was like last season [against PSG in the round of 16], we had many chances but could not score and they had one or two chances and score."
With their European aspirations over for another season, the Reds now turn their focus back to the Premier League. They head into Matchweek 33 in fifth place, the final guaranteed Champions League spot allocated to the English top flight.
Konaté urged his team to maintain their grip on the berth over the final weeks of the campaign, and suggested they use Tuesday's performance as a benchmark for success.
"The game today meant a lot of things because against PSG, who are a bit better than last season, to make a performance like that we have to build from that and realise how good we can be," he said.
"It is minimum standard for Liverpool to play Champions League. We have six games left and we have to give all in those six games."
