Location

Palmeiras are one of three Serie A clubs in the city of Sau Paulo, along with Corinthians and Sau Paulo FC. 

Their Allianz Parque stadium is located in the Agua Branca neighbourhood within the Barra Funda district.  

Origin

Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras was founded by Italian immigrants in 1914, as "Palestra Itália". 

The founders’ main goal was to form a football team that would be representative of the Italian community and face the big names of São Paulo's football elite.

Trophies won

No Brazilian team has won the top division title more times than Palmeiras. They first won the competition in 1960 and have been champions on 12 occasions. 

They have also won the Copa Libertadores four times, with the last coming in 2021.

While there are five Palmeiras players with two goals apiece in the Serie A so far this year, teenage sensation Estevao leads the club in all competitons with eight goals in 2025.

The Club World Cup could be his Palmeiras swansong as he has agreed to join Chelsea in the summer.

The Portuguese coach has been in charge since 2020 and has so far enjoyed a particularly successful stint at the helm of the club.

He scored two successive Copa Libertadores victories in 2020 and 2021 and followed it up with domestic joy in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, in 2022 and 2023.
