Team news

Palmeiras opened their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw against FC Porto at MetLife Stadium outside New York City. The Brazilian side finished the match with 17 shots, with five on target. Estevao, the 18-year-old winger who will join Chelsea FC later this year, won the Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match award after impressing during his 65 minutes on th field.

Al Ahly FC also began their tournament with a scoreless draw against Inter Miami CF at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. Goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy ensured a share of the points by making two crucial late saves, including one dramatic stop on Lionel Messi in stoppage time.

Emam Ashour, Al Ahly's star midfielder, suffered a broken collarbone against Inter Miami and will miss the rest of the Club World Cup.

With all four teams level with one point, qualification for the knockout phase remains wide open.
