Palmeiras came through a gruelling all-Brazilian clash with Botafogo in the Round of 16 to become the first team to book their spot in the last eight. Coach Abel Ferreira has made a habit of using his squad to the maximum in the tournament – four of their five goals have been scored by substitutes, including Paulinho. Their Round of 16 hero most likely start on the bench here, too, after Ferreira revealed he will have surgery on a leg injury after the tournament and will only be used sparingly, while they'll also be missing the suspended Uruguayan Joaquin Piquerez. Estevao – who is set to join Chelsea following the finals – will be able to play, however.
Chelsea FC also had to go to extremes to get to the last eight after an epic last-16 clash with SL Benfica that saw them eventually win 4-1 after extra time. Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the second half of that additional period in Charlotte added to Reece James' strike in normal time. The good news for Chelsea is that they can count on striker Nicolas Jackson again after he served the second game of his suspension last time out, though Moises Caicedo is missing after receiving a yellow card last time out. Also, Romeo Lavia may miss the game with a muscle injury.
Palmeiras: Weverton (c); Giay, Micael, Bruno Fuchs; Mayke, Rios, Martinez, Vanderlan; Allan, Vitor Roque, Estevao.
Chelsea FC: Sanchez; James (c), Badiashile, Colwill, Cucurella; Essugo, Lavia; Palmer, Fernandez, Pedro Neto; Jackson.
"Yes, we are the underdogs. It will be a good opportunity for the local public to root against an English team, especially considering that [Friday], if I’m not mistaken, this country will celebrate their Independence Day, right? So, there's that. We will fight for our dreams with everything we have."
Abel Ferreira, Palmeiras coach
"We always respect Brazilian football. We don't need this tournament to respect Brazilian football. At least we personally always respect Brazilian football because it's one of the best countries or the best country in the world in terms of quality, in terms of football. So I really respect Brazil. I don't need this competition to respect Brazilian football. They've showed each game here in this competition how good they are. And they're going to continue [to show it] also after this competition."
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea coach

It is perhaps fitting that the first ticketed event at Lincoln Financial Field was the eye-catching friendly between European rivals Barcelona and Manchester United in August 2003, with Patrick Kluivert having the honor of scoring the venue’s first goal. Now home to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, the impressive arena has also been selected to host five group-stage matches and a round of 16 game during the eagerly anticipated 48-team FIFA World Cup 26™.
