Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid will face off in a mouthwatering battle on Matchday 1 of Group B. Both teams qualified via the ranking pathway and will be among the favourites to lift the Club World Cup title. PSG and Atlético have met in the not-too-distant past, with the Madrid outfit striking late to snatch a 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory in Paris last November. More drama is expected when the European powerhouses collide again at Rose Bowl Stadium.
Star PSG forward Ousmane Dembele looks set to miss out through injury, with Bradley Barcola another player struggling due to a knee problem. Luis Enrique's European champions still have a wealth of attacking talent to choose from, though, with Goncalo Ramos, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all available. Atleti, meanwhile, will look to in-form striker Julian Alvarez as they look to overcome their European rivals, with the Argentina international having scored 29 goals in all competitions last season.
Our aim is always the same in every competition: to give ourselves the best possible chance of winning. I believe we’re a role-model club in world football, and having rewritten the history books by lifting the biggest prize in the European game, the [UEFA] Champions League, our goal now in this inaugural edition of the Club World Cup is obviously to get as far as possible, go all the way to the final and be in with a chance of winning it."
PSG coach Luis Enrique
"We all have a strong sense of what it means to represent Spain and Atlético at the Club World Cup, and we’ll give it our all. It will be a lot like the [FIFA] World Cup, but with club teams. The South American and European styles of football are so different, which will make it exciting and entertaining, especially for fans who aren’t used to seeing these clubs play. Hopefully, it’ll be an experience that everyone can enjoy."
Atleti coach Diego Simeone

There are few more iconic stadia across the world than Pasadena’s Rose Bowl, which celebrated its centenary in 2022. The sweeping seating throughout the circular arena provides an uninterrupted view to the playing field for all spectators, and was the venue for the FIFA World Cup Final™ in 1994, when Brazil were crowned champions for the fourth time in their history following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Italy. The FIFA Women’s World Cup Final™ of 1999 also took place here, when the host nation prevailed on penalties against China PR.
