Team news

Arguably the most famous meeting between these two sides was the 2020 UEFA Champions League final in Lisbon, where Bayern ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a header by PSG old boy Kingsley Coman. It took five years for PSG to recover from that setback and reach another European decider, where they left nothing up to chance by hammering FC Internazionale Milano 5-0 last month.

They'll now look to claim revenge on Bayern and could have Ousmane Dembele back to do it after the forward made his tournament bow as a substitute in the 4-0 last-16 win over Inter Miami CF. Bayern may also be able to call upon a stricken star, as Jamal Musiala managed 18 minutes off the bench in victory over CR Flamengo last time out. They will, however, be without Leroy Sane following his move to Galatasaray, while Coman is struggling with a knock.

Possible starting XIs

PSG: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos (C), Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Ruiz, Vitinha; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.

Bayern München: Neuer (C); Laimer, Tah, Upamecano, Stanisic; Goretzka, Kimmich; Olise, Musiala, Gnabry; Kane.

What they said

"We're super motivated; it's a huge game. We also have a score to settle, so we're really motivated. They're a great team, with a great coach and great players, so it's going to be tough. We're not necessarily afraid of them, we just know it's going to be hard. It could have been a great final. We're playing them in the quarter-finals, so it's going to be a big game and we're going to give it our all."
Bradley Barcola, PSG forward

"They are a team similar to us, who want the ball, who go after it, who need it. When they have the ball, they can play both ways: if you press them, they play long and generate depth with their fast players; if you don't press them, they have the ability to keep the ball. And when they don't have the ball, they press."
Luis Enrique, PSG coach

"The game PSG has been able to develop is very impressive and very complete. In these type of games, you have to earn the right to have space, earn the right to have a shot and even recover the ball. These games are played on a knife-edge. I can imagine the first 20 minutes but what happens after will probably depend on what happens in these first 20 minutes."
Vincent Kompany, Bayern coach

"We have to believe (we can win the Club World Cup) for sure. We're going up against a tough opponent in the next round no doubt, Champions League winners. We have to be ready for that but we feel like on our day we can beat anyone. It would be a dream come true to go all the way and win it but there's games before that."
Harry Kane, Bayern striker
