Team news

The second semi-final of the tournament pits together two sides of European football royalty. Paris Saint-Germain, reigning kings of the continent, took one step closer to claiming the global crown after defeating FC Bayern München in a fiery affair that saw Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez sent off - both of whom will now miss the clash with Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique will be buoyed by the fact that Ousmane Dembele opened his Club World Cup account last time out - his 34th of a stellar campaign - and may opt with the jewel of the PSG crown to spearhead his attack having come off the bench in his previous two matches.

Xabi Alonso himself has a decision to make at centre forward. Much to the acclaim of the New York New Jersey crowd, Kylian Mbappe notched his first goal of the tournament in a thrilling 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund. The French forward will be eager to impress against his former employers, but he has seen his game time limited thus far in no small part due to the outstanding form of breakout talent Gonzalo Garcia.

The 21-year old academy graduate has hit the back of the net four times already, and remains the only player with a direct goal involvement in all of his side's matches. One man who won't feature for the Galacticos, though, is summer acquisition Dean Huijsen after his late red card in the quarter-final, bringing an abrupt halt to what has been an impressive start to life at Los Blancos.

What they said

“I played PSG this season and they were outstanding. Of course it’s going to be a difficult game. We’re both in the final four and we both deserve to be here. In knockout football, anyone can beat anyone. We’ll work hard to recover and prepare for a difficult game. Let’s see who comes out on top and who are the best team.” Trent Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid defender

"This year we’ve gone through difficult times, but I think the team has shown our character, standing together in tough moments. We were able to score the second and show that we want to stay in this competition, that we’re one of the contenders for the title.” Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain defender
