Guardiola jokingly suggests Wembley stand should be named after him: 'At least a lounge or a box'
Pep Guardiola has a long history with Wembley Stadium, and he will add another chapter when Manchester City and Chelsea meet in Saturday's FA Cup final.
Man City have already won a trophy at the famous London stadium this season, claiming the Carabao Cup over Premier League title rivals Arsenal in March. Now the Sky Blues can add this season's FA Cup to their trophy case with a victory over the struggling Blues, and Guardiola wants his side to win it for the supporters.
“This is the message. The message is [this is the] FA Cup final, at Wembley, with two prestigious clubs, with our fans that make an effort, an incredible effort to come down to London [and it is] not cheap," the Man City manager said on Friday.
“And go to support us and try to perform as best as possible to win. And always there is a game plan you have to do.”
Saturday's match will be Guardiola's 24th trip to Wembley during his time in charge of the Sky Blues. He and his teams have become such a fixture at the venue that Guardiola jokingly suggested that a stand be named after him.
“Yeah, I’m so disappointed English football that they don’t make a stand to Pep!" he said.
“Many times I’ve been there, at least a lounge or a box or something like that [should be named for me]. Maybe I go 24 more times. It’s a special place definitely."
