Premier League power rankings: Chelsea, Tottenham the biggest movers

We head into Matchweek 9 with a pair of teams at the top of the Premier League standings who appear to be on the cusp of breaking away and forming their own race for the title, but there are a few other sides that will have something to say about that if they can raise their performances to another level.

It's a similar situation in our Power Rankings, as the previous leader has fallen off while two familiar challengers for the title have taken over the mantle at the top. Meanwhile, big names like Chelsea and Manchester United are starting to find their form, but questions remain as to whether they can do so over the long term.

We try to make sense of it all in the latest Power Rankings, which are not meant to look at the overall picture, but rather to provide a snapshot based on current form, strength of opposition, and other factors. As always, these rankings are based on Premier League play only.

Here are DAZN News' Power Rankings after Matchweek 8.

1. Arsenal (no change)

Not all wins are going to be pretty, but a set-piece powered "1-nil to the Arsenal" was enough to keep the Gunners on top.

Next match: Oct. 26 vs. Crystal Palace

2. Manchester City (no change)

Erling Haaland is red hot, and the Sky Blues are rolling. That's scary for the rest of the league.

Next match: Oct. 26 at Aston Villa

3. Liverpool (no change)

It's now three league losses in a row for the Reds, who will drop like a stone in future rankings if things don't turn around.

Next match: Oct. 25 at Brentford

4. Crystal Palace (up 1)

Palace fought back in a wild 3-3 draw last weekend, and now they can focus on putting together another lengthy undefeated streak.

Next match: Oct. 26 at Arsenal

5. Chelsea (up 5)

The Blues are suddenly winners of back-to-back games in the Premier League after a stretch of mediocrity.

Next match: Oct. 25 vs. Sunderland

6. Brentford (up 2)

Beating West Ham isn't too impressive, but Brentford took advantage of the situation to get back into the win column.

Next match: Oct. 25 vs. Liverpool

7. Newcastle (down 3)

The Magpies have lived a charmed life in the top half of these rankings for too long, and the loss to Brighton may have started their slide.

Next match: Oct. 25 vs. Fulham

8. Bournemouth (up 3)

Survived a six-goal thriller at Crystal Palace to claim a point, but the Cherries are still not quite convincing despite their record.

Next match: Oct. 26 vs. Nottingham Forest

9. Fulham (down 3)

There's no shame in losing by one goal to Arsenal, but extending their losing skid to three games is certainly a concern for Marco Silva.

Next match: Oct. 25 at Newcastle

10. Aston Villa (up 3)

Villa's remarkable turnaround continues after a victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Next match: Oct. 26 vs. Manchester City

11. Manchester United (up 4)

Don't look now, but the Red Devils have won three of their past four league games.

Next match: Oct. 25 vs. Brighton

12. Tottenham (down 5)

Spurs simply cannot seem to put together a sustained win streak. However, their position in this week's rankings are more effected by many teams around them moving up.

Next match: Oct. 26 at Everton

13. Brighton (down 4)

Similar to Tottenham above, although Brighton actually won last weekend. A few more convincing results will boost them up.

Next match: Oct. 26 at Manchester United

14. Everton (no change)

The Toffees' attack seems to have dried up, and with it any chance of improving their standing both in real life and in these rankings.

Next match: Oct. 26 vs. Tottenham

15. Sunderland (up 1)

Make it two wins in three after the Black Cats disptached Wolves rather easily.

Next match: Oct. 25 at Sunderland

16. Nottingham Forest (down 4)

The only good news is that the Ange Postecoglou era is over. Will it matter?

Next match: Oct. 26 at Bournemouth

17. Burnley (no change)

A rare win for Burnley, albeit against Leeds United, gives a glimmer of hope.

Next match: Oct. 26 at Wolves

18. Leeds United (no change)

Two losses in a row and winless in three — Leeds have a lot of work ahead.

Next match: Oct. 24 vs. West Ham

19. Wolves (up 1)

A superficial climb for Wolves, who are still abjectly terrible.

Next match: Oct. 26 vs. Burnley

20. West Ham (down 3)

The Hammers continue to find new ways to lose, even under a new manager.

Next match: Oct. 24 at Leeds United
