Real Madrid president Florentino Perez promises £130m signing ahead of election

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has promised that he will attempt to sign Bayern Munich's Michael Olise for £130m if he wins this weekend's presidential election.

Perez is on the campaign trail to be re-elected as the club's president, and this year marks the first time he has had competition since he returned to the role in 2009. 

His opponent, Enrique Riquelme, has also been making big promises when it comes to player signings and, earlier this week named Erling Haaland as someone he would sign if he were made president of Madrid. 

Riquelme was also pictured holding a Madrid shirt with 'Haaland 9' printed on the back, and as a result, is now subject to possible legal action from Manchester City.

Perez made clear his plans to spend big on Wednesday whilst appearing on the television show Horizonte. 

"I have some news for you," Perez said.

"On Tuesday or so, I'm going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a great player. It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history."

Initially, Perez dismissed the idea that Olise was the player he was talking about, but since then, reports suggest the French winger is indeed the one Perez is targeting.

Olise is currently preparing for this summer's World Cup with France, one of the favourites to win the tournament, with many backing him to be a standout player. 

Since joining Bayern from Crystal Palace two years ago, Olise has gone from strength to strength and is now one of football's most exciting attacking talents with two Bundesliga titles to his name. 

Olise's contract at Bayern runs until 2029, and they will do everything they can to keep him at the club if Madrid makes a bid after honorary president Uli Hoeneß labelled the player as "unsellable".
