Four of the top five clashed over the weekend, bringing us the latest twist in the race for European spots and the title destination.

It was another late show in the Derby d'Italia that kept things as is at the top of Serie A, but Milan were also back and are still chasing their rivals' coat-tails.

Here's a round-up of the big talking points from Serie A's matchday 25, with a game still to play on Monday evening.

Inter's magic moment amongst the controversy

If you like drama, the Derby d'Italia has been the place to be this season, as it produced another enthralling encounter between Inter and Juventus on Saturday night.

Not content with the pulsating 4-3 clash earlier in the season, 2025-26's sequel followed the same pattern but produced a different and more ominous winner as the Nerazzurri got their revenge on their old rivals.

The topsy-turvy affair at the San Siro swung from side to side and looked to be heading for a 2-2 draw as the game headed into its final moments.

Juve were clinging on after being reduced to ten men, thanks to Pierre Kalulu's dismissal, but the league leaders weren't finished and struck a final blow.

Pitor Zilenski's 90th-minute strike saw Cristian Chivu's side take all three points and re-establish a lead at the top that is looking more and more unlikely to be overhauled the more the weeks pass.

However, it will be the red card that's the game's biggest talking point. Federico La Penna's decision to send off Kalulu for a second bookable offence despite clear play-acting from Alessandro Bastoni sent the San Siro into meltdown, and the referee could face a suspension from Serie A.

Malen the man

Of all the transfer activity in January, the permanent purchase of Donyell Marlen might just be the season's smartest.

While Aston Villa now seem to be missing his firepower, Roma are reaping the benefits, with the Dutchman now giving them a consistent goal threat at the top of the club's attack.

His two goals against Napoli make it five in five games for the striker, and he's already Roma's second-highest scorer this season despite playing only a handful of games.

Malen's output could make all the difference in the closing months, as Gian Piero Gasperini's men look to finish in the league's top four.

The point in Naples certainly helped their cause, as they prevented the reigning champions from moving further ahead, and all but ended their fading title defence.

Fiorentina fightback...again

The Fiorentina survival mission is back on following their best result of the season at high-flying Como.

The Viola's revival looked to have fallen by the wayside following another dip in form, but they got a much-needed victory that moved them out of the league's bottom three.

Moise Kean's penalty secured a 2-1 victory for Paolo Vanoli's men and gets the side back on track as Fiorentina look to save what's been a thoroughly torrid campaign for the side that finished in the European spots last season.

As for Como, it was a setback for Cesc Fabregas, who still harbours ambitions of a top-four finish and a first flirtation with the Champions League.
